April 29, 2010

Update: The prizes were drawn by Mr Clay, Headteacher, on Monday 10th May. The 1st prize of £100 went to a girl in Year 7! All prize winners were notified on Monday.

In total, the school raised £874. Together with additional private donations, £1,000 was given to Jane Dexter, Rescue Manager on Wednesday 12th May. Jordan Wright (new Head Boy) and Mabel Makombore (new Deputy Head Girl) took time out of their work experience placements to travel to the rescue centre to present Jane with a cheque.

Rabbits are the most mistreated pet in the UK. We are raising funds for a Warwickshire care centre based in Budbrooke, near Warwick, which has over 100 rabbits in rescue. They are cared for by a dedicated team of people, all on a completely voluntary basis. The centre gets by on donations from concerned animal lovers and the goodwill of local people in providing hay,… [read more]

AGS...walking in a Winter wonderland

January 07, 2010

The stunning morning of January 7th and the equally brilliant 8th. AGS can be such a beautiful site!

Help For Heroes event...

December 20, 2009

AGS raised £777.62 on a single morning to support this wonderful charity. Brad Everitt, Army, and Tom Dally, RAF and a former AGS pupil, were on hand to distribute awards for the Autumn term. Students and staff came together and went for a non-uniform day to raise money. Staff raised money by donating cash rather than sending Christmas cards to each other and some hard working KS3 students had a very successful cake sale.

We wish Brad and Tom every success as they run 100 miles between Ewood park and Villa Park.

Rewards Scheme

August 18, 2009

We have introduced a new rewards scheme for 2009-2010. There are different schemes for Key Stages 3 and 4.

KS3

Students will be given credits for work that goes above and beyond the norm. Teachers and other staff may award up to 3 credits per lesson or activity. The credits themselves are plastic discs, pictured here. Students then pass these credits to their Form Tutors and a score will be kept. The Form Tutor returns the credits to the central store for re-cycling. We have 6,000 crdits in stock. When a student reaches a certain points total, they receive specially made badges, awarded during formal school assemblies.

Bronze = 100 points
Silver = 200 points
Gold = 300 points
Bronze + Gold or 2 x Silver = 400 points, and so on.

KS4

Students will receive Attitudes to Learning scores based upon a 9 point scale. 9 is the highest. Scores of 7 to 9 will count towards the prize draw. Here’s how it wor… [read more]
