Welcome to Modern Foreign Languages

The modern languages department is passionate about languages. We prepare students for a world where language skills are in demand by employers. Through language learning students also develop a greater cultural awareness.

Learners have the opportunity to pursue French, German or Italian from year 7 to GCSE. Courses in modern languages are enhanced by exchange visits and trips abroad from various departments throughout the school.

French

Spoken in 44 countries throughout the world, French is the world's most taught second language. We teach French throughout the School to GCSE. Optimal use of French is used as the language of instruction.

German

There are 81 million German speakers within Germany alone. This is the language of Europe plc. German is often regarded as the second language of the world’s scientific community. This language can also be studied at GCSE.

Italian

The language of culture. Pupils may have already studied German or French before they have the opportunity to learn some Italian. This enables them to transfer the skills needed to learn a language. Like the other two languages on offer in the school, they can be taken to GCSE.
